Ground number 137
First Visit = 29/8/16 Solihull 2-3 Macclesfield (Vanarama National League)
First new ground of the 2016/17 season and a cracking bank holiday Monday on which to visit newly promoted Solihull Moors.
This is the first season for the Moors in the top tier of the non league game and their ground reflects the changes that have had to be made as they have risen through the divisions. I like the place, it is tidy enough and has a lot of character, but I can also see that people might think it is a bit basic for the division. I’m also not sure if the Football League would be happy with it either if they got near a promotion place.
The pitch, as you can see despite my best attempt at photography was in excellent condition, which led to a good game of football. It has also been narrowed to allow the long throw expert they have to cause maximum problems for visiting sides.
There is a range of seating throughout the ground, with a shallow stand which runs half the length of the pitch being the area of choice for locals. There is also a small temporary stand which looks to have been put in to make sure they have enough seats for the league rules.
The lack of segregation is also a bonus, it will be a challenge when clubs bring a large following but with Macc that is never too much of an issue.
The facilities such as the cafe and the bar are accessible both inside and outside the ground, and were being well used by home and away fans before the match. Ticket prices of £14 for adults is good compared to elsewhere in the conference and £8 for concessions is very reasonable.
I think Solihull will do OK this season, so hope to visit again in 2017/18!
